Most of my time with clients is spent either helping couples to strengthen their relationships, or with individuals assisting them to manage a diversity of life’s challenges. With couples, my goal is to help you create a richer, more enjoyable connection than you may currently think is possible. I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) which has a 75% success rate with couples. I also use EFT to help families strengthen their connections to each other. With individuals, I have helped youth and adults with obtaining the skills and connections to others needed to pursue happiness and life goals interrupted by addictions, depression, anxiety, and other mental health challenges. I know recovery from mental health challenges and addictions is possible!

As a parent, it can be troubling or even scary when you see your child struggling with behavioral issues, anxiety, and/or depressed mood. I have extensive expertise in working with children and their families who have experienced traumatic events and/or struggle with disruptive behavior patterns. In therapy, I strive to create a safe healing space for a child to work through their problematic symptoms. I provide parents with strategies to help reconnect and heal their relationships with their children that may have been disrupted by uncontrollable events.

I also have a passion in working with individuals who seek healing through EMDR. EMDR is an evidenced-based modality that can help clients find healing from anxiety, panic attacks, depressed mood, disturbing memories, complicated grief, sexual and/or physical abuse and so much more! This modality has been shown to provide client’s with relief and healing much quicker than traditional talk therapy.

I am a Registered Play Therapist, certified Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapist and fully trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) working towards being a certified EMDR therapist. I am directive and eclectic in my approach to therapy and I believe in creating a safe space where the client can heal their mind, body and spirit as a whole.

I believe people have the answers they need to live a meaningful life. My purpose in counseling is to go along with people on their journeys of self-exploration with a goal of discovering insights and truths that allow them to develop a personal sense of meaning. Life can be challenging and painful and I believe self-awareness is vital to achieving health and balance. Additionally, I believe it is important for people to look inside themselves and develop insight which will lead to a way of being that is authentic. Ideally, people I work with will develop a sense of self-reliance that stays with them and leads to lasting improvement.

Clinically, I have experience helping adults, adolescents and couples through a variety of issues, including anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, and other serious mental illness.

I prefer to tailor my approach to each client. I collaborate with clients and use a variety of interventions that are appropriate for their goals.

It is my belief that people experience both highs and lows in life. I believe that each person has the ability to become aware and capable of making informed decisions and live a meaningful life. By bringing about a level of awareness each individual can learn to self regulate and be prosperous in life. It is through my experience as a counselor in multiple settings that I have developed this belief. I am passionate about working with individuals from all walks of life that could be struggling with depression, anxiety, or difficulty with interpersonal relationships. In using a Gestalt approach I focus on the here and now to facilitate awareness and to build insight for an improved life.

I believe that clients have the ability to choose how to resolve their own problems and make their own decisions with my assistance. I believe that clients are responsible for their own behaviors, thoughts, and feelings. As a counselor, I encourage my clients to develop greater self-awareness and mental health through their life experiences; through building increased confidence, self-esteem, and independence; and building the capacity to effectively navigate the complex challenges of life.

Because I believe that a client’s self-awareness and choices are key to developing self-direction and independence, my techniques will include client-centered therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. These techniques will provide methods to solve problems utilizing the client’s own strengths to meet their needs. Even when meeting with an individual, I attempt to incorporate the entire family, when appropriate and possible.
